Summary

Features: Beachwood Inn Wicker Park is a small family-owned dive bar on the corner of Beach and Wood, hence the name. Since the 50s the Chicago Beachwood Inn has mostly attracted regulars, and more recently has become a haven for the Hipster crowd. The Beachwood Inn Chicago is a great place to grab some drinks and just hang out. Play board games, pool, or the pinball machine. The jukebox is classic, and has an enormous selection of music for everyone's taste. The crowd that hangs around there is fairly relaxed, but if you start trouble they won't hesitate to make you feel unwelcome.

Why We Go: The Beachwood Inn Chicago is the perfect place to relax, and the drinks are cheap, so if you're on a budget, definitely check this place out. Don't expect the place to get too rowdy, just plan on having a good time.

  • Drinks: The bar only accepts cash, but the drinks are cheap, so you don't need to bring a bucket of bills.
  • Jukebox: A jukebox is classic and always creates a great atmosphere for any bar like it does at the Beachwood Inn Wicker Park.
  • Games: With a load of board games to choose from as well as a pool table and arcade machines, the Beachwood Inn Wicker Park is great for a relaxing night out.

Inside Knowledge: Beachwood Inn Wicker Park opened in 1950 by Leonard Stepien who was shot in the back and killed in the early 60s. His wife took over the bar, and subsequently his two sons. His son Bob was also shot in the bar in 1976, but he survived a bullet wound to the arm. It is believed that Leonard's ghost haunts the basement of the bar.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do bring cash: The Beachwood Inn at Wicker Park accepts cash only, and there isn't an ATM there, so you need to grab some buck before you go; however, you don't have to worry about bringing too much because the drinks are cheap.
  • Do be friendly: The Beachwood Inn Wicker Park is full of regulars all the time who welcome newcomers as long as they carry a pleasant attitude.
  • Don't overdress: You don't want to be a complete standout at the Beachwood Inn Chicago by overdressing for the dive bar. It tends to be a Hipster destination as well as many regulars, so dress casual and ready to just hang out.
  • Don't expect a party: The Beachwood Inn is not a bar that blows up as the night goes on. Its a dive bar with a relaxed attitude, so if you are wanting to get a little rowdy, go somewhere else.
