Boats docked at Navy Pier offer a number of great opportunities to see Chicago fireworks from Lake Michigan with a variety of special Chicago Fireworks Cruises.


Men's Fitness Ultimate Athlete

Location: North Avenue Beach

Men’s Fitness is bringing its Ultimate Athlete event to Chicago’s Lakefront this summer. The competitive athletic skills challenge is free and open to the public and will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2009, from 11 AM - 5 PM CT on North Ave. Beach.

Participants will compete in a series of seven timed sporting competitions as they vie for their chance to be crowned the Ultimate Athlete. The winner will take home bragging rights, $2,500 plus a trip for two to Beaches Resorts and a one-year membership to Chicago Equinox with a six-pack of physical training or Pilates sessions.

In addition to the competition, there will be an appearance by WWE® Superstar CM Punk, sponsor giveaways, and fun pick-up games of beach volleyball and bags. Corona Light will also host a sports bar from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM where beers will be sold two for $5 with all proceeds going to the After-School All-Stars National Charity.

Puerto Rican Day Parade

Location: Columbus and Balbo Drives

The 44th annual parade celebrating Puerto Rican culture steps off at Columbus and Balbo Drives and proceeds north on Columbus Drive to Monroe Street with a procession of floats, folk dancers, reggaeton music groups, salsa dancers and others in tow.


Historic Pullman Garden Walk

23rd Annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games

The Illinois Saint Andrew Society (ISAS) presents the 23rd Annual Scottish Festival & Highland Games 2009. ISAS, Illinois’ oldest charity, is proud to once again present their annual summer celebration with a dazzling array of events for the whole family, including: a Champion Supreme Pipe Band competition; Highland Dance competition; Heavy Athletics U.S. Championship; Youth 5 v 5 Soccer Tournament; British Car Show; cultural exhibits; Scotch whisky tastings and seminars; live Celtic musical performances (both traditional and Celtic rock); Parade of Tartans; Kilted Mile Run/Walk; Raffle; Children’s crafts and activities; and a variety of attendee contests such as the Shortbread, Knobbly Knees, Haggis Hurling and Haggis Eating. Attendees can also enjoy traditional Scottish cuisine and drink, including a Tea Tent and the Celtic Marketplace, where a variety of unique Scottish and Celtic merchandise will be available for purchase.

1st Annual Taste of the Riverwalk

Location: Wacker Drive & South Bank of the Chicago River from Franklin St to Lake Shore Dr

The Chicago Riverwalk returns in 2009 offering visitors a wide-range of amenities, with three new vendors added the line-up. The Riverwalk officially opens Memorial Day from 6a.m. - 11p.m. Some attractions will begin to open by mid-May, weather permitting. Tour boats and water taxis have already begun service for the 2009 season.

Also new this year, look for the 1st Annual Taste of the Riverwalk to take place June 19 – 21. The event will feature tasty samplings from vendors at a discounted rate, music, programming and fishing. Entrance to the event will be free and will take place throughout the Riverwalk promenade.

The Riverwalk is a river-level promenade offering visitors concessions that include riverfront cafes, tour boats and water taxis, bicycle rentals, and retail stands featuring crafts made by local women entrepreneurs.

Currently, the Riverwalk runs along Wacker Drive and the south bank of the Chicago River from Franklin Street to Lake Shore Drive. Boat tours and water taxis also operate from the north side of the river at Michigan Avenue. Stairs to the Riverwalk are located at every bridge. East of State Street, it is wheel-chair accessible and continuous between the lakefront and a pedestrian ramp located in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza at State Street. Visitors may also be dropped off at Lower Stetson between Michigan and Columbus.

Chicago World Cup Soccer Tournament

Location: Chicago YMCA Rauner Family, 2700 S Western Ave

The 2009 Chicago World Cup will take place on Saturday June 27th at the Chicago YMCA Rauner and based on its success will be surrounded this year by other official events such as a formal public banquet on 6/26, where the players will have a chance to meet their country’s dignitaries, as well as sports celebrities and major actors of the Chicago community, a qualifier tournament (on 6/20) and the first Coed Chicago World Cup on (on 6/20).

Tour of The Chicago Theatre

Time: 12:00pm

The tour encompasses historical and architectural highlights of the building, including the grand lobby areas, majestic auditorium and backstage space (when possible) where performers through the years.

Tours take place every Tuesday & Thursday at 12pm
Thursday tours from April to September.
The running time for all weekday tours is approximately 1 hour.
Reservations do not need to be made in advance unless your party contains more than 10 people.
$5 per person, no reservations necessary
