Taking Pictures

With the large number of beautiful landmarks around the Windy City, professional and amateur travel photographers will have plenty to keep them busy as they record images of their trip.  Enjoying the photography hobby is one of the best things to do in Chicago.

  • Cloud Gate: More often called "The Bean" because it looks like the eponymous legume, this attraction is huge.  It stands tall at 33 feet high and 66 feet long.  This creation of British artist Anish Kapoor is one of the most visited free Chicago attractions.  Visitors love to explore the underside of this piece.  There's a 12 foot arc underneath the bean that allows visitors to walk through to the other side.
  • Buckingham Fountain: This public work of art rises 23 feet high.  Commissioned in 1929 by Kate Buckingham (in honor of her late brother Clarence), and designed by French sculptor Marcel F. Loyau, the Buckingham Fountain graces the center of a garden in Grant Park.  There are 4 pairs of bronze seahorses that represent Lake Michigan's 4 immediate surrounding states.

  • Navy Pier: Kids love playing at the Chicago Children's Musem's interactive exhibits.  Kids can play with fun collections of miniature knick knacks in the special exhibit, Michael's Museum: A Curious Collection of Tiny Treasures.  In the Kraft Artabounds Studio, kids can get their hands messy while they paint, sculpt, and build things that they imagine.  Go for a ride on the carousel and ferris wheel at Navy Pier.  You can even challenge your travel companions to a game of 18-hole miniature golf.
  • Chicago Cultural Center: Windy City visitors love checking out the free arts showcases held here.  Soak up the sweet sounds of music during a free concert.  These public performances are truly free.  Admire the grace of dancers, and feel the whole spectrum of emotions evoked by actors.  When you crave intellectual stimulation, you can attend a lecture on an interesting topic.
