Crossroads - Cheap drinks, fun atmosphere in Lincoln Park

I visited the Crossroads Public House right after stopping by The Southern in Wicker Park for a drink. While it's probably unfair to compare the two given that they're both so different, I have to say that the value at Crossroads was so above and beyond that of The Southern, which is why I would recommend it over the (admittedly classier) Southern a short cab ride away.

When my friend and I arrived at Crossroads, the vibe was lively and there were tons of people there - and yet we were still able to find a couple of seats at the bar. (SCORE.) We were immediately greeted by a genuinely nice (and attentive, and pretty) bartender who informed us that cocktails were now $1. Yup - $1 you-call-its. (SECOND SCORE.)

We each ordered a drink and a water, and sat down for the home stretch of our Thursday evening. The music was noticeable, but not too loud that I couldn't hear my friend talking. Also, we made casual conversation with the bartender, which is always fun. (Again, I liked The Southern, but the bartenders at Crossroads were much warmer.) Overall I had such a good time at Crossroads that ...

... I came back a couple of days later, this time for dinner. I had noticed they served food on my first trip, so as I wandered down Clark St. on my last night in Chicago in search of a meal and the Bears game, I stopped to check the menu at Crossroads. Just my luck - $6.95 steak and fries special. (SCORE THREE) Again, I parked it at the bar (the same seat, even), ordered my meal from a different but equally nice bartender, and settled in for Monday Night Football. (Hey, Mickey's - they had the sound ON. Just sayin'.)

My steak was actually better than I expected - granted, I had low expectations. It was a little fatty, but it was cooked the way I had asked for and was definitely worth the $7 I spent on it. Also, while I didn't indulge, I noticed that they had $5 pitchers of beer, which by any standard is a pretty amazing deal. Lastly, they had flat-screen TVs everywhere, so I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a place to watch the game.

Whether it's a quick drink, dinner or a sports bar you're looking for, Crossroads has it all and I'd definitely recommend them if you're in Lincoln Park.
