Great neighborhood, solid value

I enjoyed a great stay at the Days Inn Chicago, and would absolutely recommend it to young travelers in Lincoln Park on a budget. It's located right on the edge of the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods, and there are plenty of great bars and restaurants just down the street in either direction. (Check out AliveOne around the corner on Halsted for free music, or pay for some good blues just a couple blocks down the street at Kinston Mines.) Also, the Diversey L Train stop (Brown and Purple lines) is just a 10 minute walk away, and you can get Downtown at any given time in about 20 minutes.

The hotel itself is small and simple, though the bathroom in my room was surprisingly huge. (And accessible for disabled persons.) The room was tiny, but it did have a desk, a TV (maybe 27", not HD), and free - albeit slow - WiFi. However, there's a Starbucks across the street if you need to get work done ASAP, and you can pay for an Internet upgrade if you would prefer. The standard room is completely adequate if you're staying alone or as a couple, though don't expect any romantic views from your window. (Mine was a brick wall, not that I cared.)

I checked in on Halloween night, and there was definitely a party vibe in the lobby. Some people were dressed up, and when I walked down the stairs to the lobby I found a couple of empty beer bottles. I definitely got the impression that this was a hotel that attracts a younger crowd, which is great because it's really close to DePaul University and there's a college atmosphere to the entire neighborhood. Also, the continental breakfast available each morning was great, and it lasts until 11am for the lazier types. Plenty of bagels, donuts, cereal and coffee to be had.

Overall, for the price (around $100 a night) and the location, I can't imagine a better value in the area. I stayed in the Inn at Lincoln Park just down the street which is slightly cheaper, but I definitely preferred the atmosphere and the room comfort of the Days Inn Chicago. I would definitely give this hotel a shot if you're looking for a cheaper option in a safe, younger neighborhood.

Days Inn Chicago - A Great Hotel if You're on a Budget

The Days Inn really is actually surprisingly nice I have to say. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a cheap hotel. They’ll let you check in early, drop off your bags, which I think is really nice. It’s a little bit of an older hotel but they’ve definitely fixed it up to be nice and modern. And even though it’s old, it’s still kept pretty clean.

This is a great location too. Just a short walk to the train stop (brown line) and right by tons of restaurants and a Walgreen’s and Trader Joe’s just in case you forgot something. The area is super safe and close enough to Downtown but out of the hustle and bustle of everything.

They offer a free breakfast but it’s not really worth getting out of bed for. The front desk is pretty nice and helpful. They have some great recommendations for restaurants in the area that only locals would know.

It’s a really great hotel if you looking for something cheap in Chicago, and you’ll definitely get your money out of it. I’ve stayed at more expensive places that were not nearly this nice, that’s for sure.
