Harry Caray's - Decent food, better atmosphere

This review is for the original Harry Caray's in River North.

Harry Caray's is an absolute must for baseball fans visiting the area, not as much for the food (which was good, not great) but for the memorabilia documenting the history of the Cubs and Caray’s legacy as their legendary announcer. Caray, of course, was the long-time announcer of the Cubs, and his famous face graces the outside of this well-known building near the Chicago River.

Be sure to get your picture taken with the golden statue of Caray’s smiling dome, which greets you at the entrance. The lounge was hopping at lunch-time on a Tuesday afternoon, and the staff was friendly, personable and fast.

There are tons of TVs with either ESPN or MSNBC on as to cater to both sports fans and businesspeople. Drink prices are average for the city (about $6 for a beer and $8 for a glass of wine), and the sandwiches are a little pricey. ($11- $15).

I tried the chili which was super-meaty and equally filling. It was good, but it definitely made me wish I had a couple of hot dogs to go with it. There’s a dining room as well for a more formal sit-down dinner, if that’s what you had in mind.

No matter what your occasion is, be sure to take a few minutes to walk around Harry Caray's and take it all in; both the first and second floor have tons of memorabilia on the wall, from old newspaper clippings to photos of famous celebrities posing with the aforementioned statue of Caray.

Definitely a must-see Chicago attraction if you're hoping to pay homage to Mr. Caray. Now, "Let me hear ya' everybody!"

Harry Carays Chicago - Not Fantastic but Best Place on Navy Pier

I ate at the Harry Carays on Navy Pier. It was alright. They have a very nice patio, so if it’s a nice day outside, I’d recommend sitting out there. It’s a good place to people watch with everyone walking up and down Navy Pier. The restaurant has a fun theme to it. Tons of sports memorabilia inside, which is great. But the food is just alright. I had a burger, and it was good but not the best burger I’ve ever had or anything. My server was awesome though. Such a sweet girl and totally on top of everything the whole time. I really felt like she went out of her way to be nice to me. This isn’t the best restaurant ever or anything, but I definitely feel like it’s the best option of places to eat on Navy Pier. It’s also a Chicago staple and it does have a fun vibe to it, so I feel like everyone should try it while in Chicago, but if you don’t get a chance to eat here, you didn’t miss that much.
