Heart O Chicago - Honestly, it's better then it looks
This place kind of looks like a flea bag motel from the outside, but it’s really not. It’s actually a decent hotel. It’s very affordable, which is great if you’re like me on a budget. I think I paid around $95 a night on a Friday and Saturday, which is really cheap for Chicago on the weekend.
The location is ok. It’s up in north Chicago in the Andersonville/Bryn Mahr area, which is a really cute neighborhood, but unfortunately it’s not that close to downtown. It’s about as far north as you can go in Chicago without hitting the suburbs. There’s a train station (red line) just down the street and it runs 24 hours a day, but it still took me quite a while to get downtown on the train. That’s the only downside. But it’s a cheap, clean and quiet hotel which is nice. The rooms were actually pretty big, and they were clean. I found the shower to be a little weird though. It had the weirdest shower curtain I’ve ever seen. It was made out of like rubber or something and didn’t close all the way, which bothered me.
The staff was pretty nice. They let me check in early and let me check out late without charging me anything, so I thought that was super nice! If you have a car, they had a big parking lot with plenty of room.
It’s definitely not anything fancy, but if you’re just looking for a cheap hotel and don’t mind sitting on the train for a while to get downtown, it’s perfect.
