Inn at Lincoln Park - Great value, slightly outdated

The Inn at Lincoln Park isn't much to look at, but they have some of the cheapest rooms in the neighborhood (only the Getaway Hostel is cheaper, from what I could tell) and their location is pretty unbeatable.

I was able to walk in on a Wednesday and received a room for two nights for under $100 a night - not bad considering how many great restaurants and bars are in the area. I was a little put off by the old lobby and sort of "musty" smell to the Inn at L.P., but the woman at the desk was really nice and I was able to check in right away. (Which was really convenient given that it was 11am, if not earlier.)

After enjoying a ride in the smallest elevator in the world (not really an exaggeration), I walked into a room that, aside from the flat-screen TV, looked like it hadn't been updated since the early-90's. Don't get too excited - the HDTV didn't actually have any HD channels. However, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was really small; I actually banged the door against the toilet the first time I walked in. However, the hot water was pretty quick to react and the toiletries were above average. Also, they have free WiFi which was pretty slow, but you can upgrade for a fee and there is a Starbucks next door if you need to get some work done.

As far as location goes, this is the best thing the Inn at Lincoln Park has going for it. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Diversey L stop (Brown and Purple lines) so you can get Downtown in about 20 minutes or so, and the neighborhood is made up of mostly families and college kids attending nearby DePaul. Definitely on the safer side, and there's a lot to do at night.

There's a free continental breakfast in the morning that's pretty lackluster but, like I said, there's a Starbucks next door.

Overall, if you don't plan on spending much time in your hotel room and you're on a budget, I would recommend the Inn at Lincoln Park as the staff is nice, the rooms are fine and the location is great.

Inn at Lincoln Park Chicago a Decent Hotel

This place is just alright. It was cheap and that’s mostly why I booked it. It’s a very old, mostly historic hotel. But I think old places are pretty cool so that didn’t bother me. The lobby was nice with older wooden walls and floors. My room was super small though. The bed took up almost the whole room. And you have to pay for high speed Internet. They have slow speed Internet for free, but it’s far too slow to use for anything other then maybe checking your e-mail, which took me forever! There is a free computer in the lobby that has high speed Internet that you can use, but it was being used most of the time while I was there. The room wasn’t that nice, but surprisingly there was a huge flat screen television in it. For how old everything was, I was surprised to see such a nice TV there.

The location was good. It’s probably about 4 blocks from a train stop on the brown line. There were a lot of restaurants and stores in walking distance.

The staff was really nice and accommodating. They let me keep my luggage there after check-out and come back for it later, which I really appreciated.

I would probably stay here again, but only if I couldn’t find something else around the same price range. The big draw here is that it’s cheap and in a good location. If you’re not planning on being in the hotel room very much, it will do.
