Jilly's on Rush - Older clientele, fun dance floor
Jilly's on Rush is located in the "Viagra Triangle" of Downtown Chicago, a little section of the Chicago Loop that's know for the older men that populate their bars, and the younger ladies that enjoy the free beverages they're happy to buy them. Now, as a 24-year-old guy, I definitely felt a little out of place at this well-known piano bar. However, that didn't stop me from having a good time.
First, the music was really solid and even inspired a few slick moves by yours truly on the dance floor. The catalog was made up of mostly uptempo classics, and while I was at first under the impression that this was a dueling pianos bar (a secret obsession of mine), I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of musicianship at Jilly's.
Second, despite the bar being really crowded (it was a Saturday night), the bartenders were pretty fast and paid attention to the entire bar - which extends down the middle of Jilly's with seating all the way around and is pretty large. Also, the bathroom attendant was really friendly and had a great inventory of mints and all that good stuff, and while I usually find attendants annoying and unnecessary, the attendant at Jilly's was a nice compliment to the venue and was not intrusive at all. Solid service all the way around.
Now, I'm not sure I can recommend Jilly's to Chicago tourists under 25 because the drinks are pricey and the clientele is a little older. However, I definitely had a positive experience here and if you find yourself in the "Viagra Triangle" for whatever reason, it's worth stopping into if only to see what the band is playing.
