Matisse - Great specials, not much else
I have to recommend the Matisse Tavern and Grill if only for the $3 burger with fries I enjoyed as my first meal in Chicago. That's right - for $3, you get a meaty burger cooked the way you like it and a generous helping of fries. (Note - this is a Monday special ONLY.) After flying cross-country, spending 40 minutes in the L Train from O'Hare, and walking a quarter-mile to my hotel, this cheap, delicious burger special was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Other than the food and their $4 Goose Island beer specials, there wasn't much else going on at Matisse. (And it was Halloween, so go figure.) There were a few regulars at the bar and the NFL pregame was on, but nothing to keep me there once I was finished with dinner. It was dark and sort of boring on the inside, but the music wasn't too loud and the bartender was nice enough.
Overall, I would only recommend Matisse if you're in the Lincoln Park area on a Monday - that burger special is unbeatable.
