Summary
Features: Quartino Chicago is a vibrant, hip wine bar on the North Side that serves delicious Italian dishes and exquisite Italian wine!
Why We Dine: Quartino Chicago Restaurant has a special place in our hearts for it's low prices, famous chef, stiff drinks and delectable dishes!
- Renowned Chef: Executive Chef John Coletta is the champion of the Quartino Chicago kitchen and has received many honorable mentions in his culinary career. The most recent Coletta accomplishment is his published cookbook, "250 True Italian Pasta Dishes." This Chicago veteran chef is also a former representative of the United States in the Culinary Olympics!
- Specialty Cocktails: What's a fabulous Italian meal without a savory cocktail to go along with it? Quartino Restaurant has delicious house cocktails including a Grapefruitcello Martini with homemade grapefruitcello, Absolut Ruby Red, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, and Aperol Liqueur.
- Lotsa Pasta: Aside from delicious seafood, juicy meats and mouthwatering risotto, Quartino Chicago Restaurant specializes in pasta! Choose either a homemade pasta like the ravioli dish with stuffed braised pork, speck, and fava beans or an imported pasta such as the Orecchiette, ear-shaped pasta and fennel sausage ragu.
Inside Knowledge: Quartino Restaurant is a lively, upbeat wine bar in North Side Chicago. While the food, wine and cocktails are absolutely divine, the noise level can be high. We suggest you not bring a romantic date or grandma and grandpa, but a group of friends or coworkers to share tapas, sip wine, and laugh out loud!
We Recommend:
- Gnocchi: This tantalizing homemade pasta features potato dumplings, green beans, potatoes, arugula pesto, and pork stock! Locals rave about this appetizing entrée!
- Chocolate Fondue: Made with classic dark chocolate, this heavenly dish on the Quartino menu comes with fresh strawberries for dipping but also serves apples, bananas, pears, pineapple and biscotti!

Quartino - Great Chicago pizza, even if it's not deep dish
I actually visited Quartino Chicago as part of the Chicago Dine-Around Progressive Tour (which, by the way, I would highly recommend), and I was extremely impressed with their food, wine and service. In my opinion, the real highlight was the pizza, but everything at Quartino was superb, and it was my favorite restaurant of the tour.
I could tell right away that Quartino was one of the most popular restaurants in Downtown Chicago - a line out the door is usually a sure sign of great food, and there was a pretty large hoard of people waiting outside the entrance of Quartino. Our tour was lucky to be seated right away, and when we arrived at our seats there was a fresh green salad to greet us and craffes of red and white wine.
After the salad (which was delicious, albeit a little bland), we moved on to the pizza. Quartino's pizza has a thin crust, but I wouldn't call it New York-style; it was much smaller and easier to manage.
We were able to try two different types of pizza: plain and pepperoni with sausage. Pepperoni and sausage is my absolute favorite pizza toppings combination, so this was a real treat. The Italian sausage in particular was savory and cooked to perfection, and I happily enjoyed two smaller slices before moving on to the cheese pizza. The sauce was mildly chunky, though not overly so and it definitely felt homemade. Really delicious. I'd give the food a 9/10.
As for the atmosphere, I really liked the look and feel of Quartino. It's got an authentic Italian vibe to it, while also maintaining a slightly upper-class feel that make it a great spot for a date night. Also, the servers were very attentive and polite, and were happy to oblige when we asked for more (free) wine during our meal.
Quartino is a fantastic Italian restaurant Downtown, and I would absolutely recommend them for really any occasion. (Note: If you're planning a large dinner, they definitely have the ability to put tables together and were really accommodating to our large party.)
