The tour was:
Hop On Hop Off? Take a boat tour instead.
I suppose it was because I had already enjoyed the superior Shoreline Sightseeing Architectural Cruise instead, but I found the Hop On Hop Off Tour of Chicago to be lackluster and at times boring.
Granted, the weather was bad teetering on terrible, but I just felt like this particular tour lacked the energy and novelty of the Chicago River cruise. Also, rather than treat tourists to any secret insider tips, the tour stuck almost exclusively to the standard tourist-y fare; the Hancock Building, Willis Tower, etc. I was hoping for something new from the Hop On Hop Off Tour - sadly, I didn't get it.
Also, be prepared to wait (and wait, and wait) for the tour bus to pick you up. They say it usually takes about 20 minutes for the bus to come around, but I swear I waited at the Hancock Building for the better part of a half-hour before the big red bus came around.
If you only take one tour during your time in Chicago, I would definitely recommend a Chicago River cruise versus these unexciting Hop On Hop Off Trolley Tours.
