Chicago
Sports-Concert-Theatre Venues
In the Chicago area you will find both
historically significant and newly constructed venues hosting a variety of
events. Soldier Field, built in the 1920’s and renovated in 2003, is home to
the Chicago Bears football team and the Chicago Fire soccer team, but also
hosts concerts and other special events. The
United Center, built in 1994 to
replace the historic Chicago Stadium, is home to the Chicago Bulls
basketball team and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. The United Center
also hosts big name concerts, ice shows, circus and other special events.
Wrigley Field is the north-siders home baseball park where the Cubs baseball
team hits homers out onto Waveland Avenue.
U.S. Cellular Field is the
Chicago White Sox baseball team’s home stadium on the south side.
Both horse racing and car racing are popular pastimes in Chicago. In
Chicago’s northwest suburb of Arlington Heights, the beautiful
Arlington
Park Race Track features thoroughbred racing in a comfortable and distinctive
environment. Harness racing is held at
Maywood Park, located in suburban
Melrose Park, and Hawthorne Race Course, located in Stickney. The
Route 66
Raceway is located in Joliet, Illinois, southwest of Chicago. It is a
multimillion-dollar complex including a 1/4 mile 30,000 seat stadium style
drag strip and 1/2 mile dirt oval track.
