Top Restaurants near River North

There are 100's of restaurants near River North, and like any neighborhood, some are definitely better than others. So, let's start with the top restaurants near River North and we'll go from there.

  • Graham Elliot: We know him from Top Chef Masters, and probably from all the rest of his famous restaurants throughout the country, and we know that we can recommend this restaurant to almost any diner in Chicago. The 5 course tasting menu is practically perfection. They take many of the great meals that we love to a new level of elegance - like popcorn! You might not expect to order popcorn in a restaurant of this caliber (let's face it, most of us even complain about how much we pay for it at the movies) but this truffle popcorn is something that you just can't leave Chicago without trying.
  • Wildfire: For a delicious Chicago steak, you can't go wrong with this one. The filet tip trio gives you the best of 3 worlds, and their delicious cocktails pair nicely with every meal in the house. Start your meal with a chopped salad and definitely end with a melt-in-your-mouth dessert.
  • Sunda: For some Sushi and Asian Fusion, put on something fancy and head this way. They don't require formal wear, but show up in your booty shorts and fanny pack and you'll feel a little out of place. The rock shrimp tempura and duck hash salad is what many diners come back for time and time again.
  • Fogo de Chao: While many are raving about their salad bar, we feel that it takes a whole lot more than a salad bar to make us fall in love with a restaurant. And boy oh boy does this place have it all! Yeah they have a good salad bar, but everything else from the lamb to the bacon wrapped filet mignon is top notch as well!

Cheap Restaurants near River North

You don't have to blow your whole vacation budget on a meal just to get good food in this city! Some of the best restaurants in Chicago offer great food at a decent price for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Some of our favorite Chicago restaurants near River North are the ones that fill us up without emptying our wallet.

Portillo's Hot Dogs: Of course when you come to Chicago, you're going to want a hot dog - and this is home of some of the best hot dogs in town! They've been around since 1963 and have made their name in the area by serving up hot dogs, Italian beef, Maxwell Street Polish, burgers, and shakes. No worries for the vegetarians in the house though, these guys have considerately added plenty of meatless sandwiches to the menu, as well as salads and sides (and desserts!) Wash down your hot dog with a chocolate shake and you'll never think of this childhood meal the same again.

Potbelly Sandwich Works: They make the perfect sandwiches for a quick and satisfying lunch in Chicago. There's a pretty good variety to choose from, and for those of you that don't need as much, they offer a "small" version with a little less of everything so that nothing goes to waste - including your money!

Restaurants near River North Open Late

Gilt Bar is open until 2am on the weekends, and this is one of the best lounges in Chicago perfect for dinner followed by drinks all night long. They have an extensive list of cocktails that you'll want to try, and many pair nicely with popular menu items like the mushroom/truffle pasta or steak tartar.

Nacional 27: The kitchen closes around 10:30 or so, but stay late for drinks and salsa dancing after your meal! If you're craving a mojito (and why wouldn't you be? Nothing scream vacation like a delicious mojito) this is one of the best restaurants in Chicago for one. Their Latin American cuisine will satisfy any hungry Chicago Traveler, and you can get started early with their happy hour, which serves 1/2 priced tapas and ceviche in the bar and lounge on weekdays.

Cafe Iberico: The Spanish cuisine at this tapas bar is almost unmatched anywhere other than... well, Spain. It's delicious, and while you might have to wait in line a bit to try it yourself, the wait is well worth it! This authentic food is so good that even many Spaniards eat here on a regular basis - and many drink here too. You're on vacation - live a little! Or a lot, because you're not going to want to leave it at just one sangria. It's a great casual and friendly atmosphere perfect for the the end, or beginning, of any day in Chicago!
