That's Weird
Grandma
Neo-Futurarium
5153 N. Ashland Ave., Chicago, IL 60640
WHAT: Barrel of Monkeys’ tenth anniversary began September 7, 2007, and
continues their run of “That’s Weird, Grandma” at 8 p.m. on Monday nights
at the Neo-Futurarium in Chicago. These new installments of the critically
acclaimed assortment of scenes and songs are adapted by the ensemble from
at-risk Chicago public school students.
After teaching creative writing in the CPS system, BOM’s ensemble of
actors, comedians, musicians and playwrights selects and adapts some of
the thousands of stories generated by children for stage presentation. The
result has been an audience favorite – a show that is “safe” for all ages,
yet very much appreciated by an adult audience. “That’s Weird, Grandma”
changes each week according to audience votes (switching 2-3 sketches each
performance), and each show runs about one hour. The show started in April
2001, and has produced over 500 stories and musical numbers.

You Took Away My Flag – A Musical Opens Friday June 12, 2009 7 p.m.
When: June 12, 13, 19, 20 at 7 p.m.
An original musical about Kosovo, “You Took Away My Flag” is a classic
story of young lovers separated by cultural divides –
war and ethnicity: Vjosa and Dragan are in love, but she is an Albanian
and he is a Serb.
Tickets are $22.50 and can be purchased at:
http://www.youtookawaymyflag.com/home.html or at:
www.strawdog.org The author,
Henry H. Perritt, spent a decade aiding the country’s redevelopment after
its violent ethnic conflict in the 1990s. During his work helping rebuild
Kosovo, Perritt lived and ate with those who lived day-to-day in the war.
The experience motivated him to write two books about the conflict, one a
way forward for the war-torn nation, the other an inside look at the
heroic and clandestine Kosovo Liberation Army.
He has taken the human drama from hundreds of interviews he conducted with
Kosovars and Serbs and turned them into a
classical musical theater story of a man and a woman whose love is
challenged by war and ethnicity.
Perritt is an accomplished attorney and academic. The former dean, now
professor, at Chicago-Kent College of Law, has
published dozens of books, served under two U.S. presidents, and run for
U.S. Congress.
