LondonHouse Chicago, Curio Collection by Hilton

A luxurious respite in the heart of the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago, LondonHouse, Curio Collection by Hilton offers 452 highly designed rooms. The boutique hotel was completely transformed in 2013 by Oxford Capital Group, who combined the classical architecture of Michigan Avenue with a modern 22-story glass tower. The result is a luxurious escape with singular taste and a prime location along the Chicago River.

LondonHouse –Best for…
Design Aficionados

If you appreciate good design, nothing stuns like the architecture of the LondonHouse. The modern hotel is tucked within the iconic London Guarantee & Accident Building, completed in 1923. The building is one of the nation’s most noted pieces of real estate, situated on the corner of North Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive alongside the Chicago River. In 2013, the comprehensive redevelopment by Oxford Capital Group fused the historic architecture with a 22-story, all-glass tower addition.

The result are accommodations that offer truly unparalleled views. Enjoy panoramic cityscapes of the Windy City as well as vistas of the Chicago River, Lake Michigan, and Magnificent Mile. Rooms are decorated with mid-century modern furnishings that mirror the building’s architectural ethos to combine old and new. The clincher? Tri-level rooftop bar and dining rooms, which boast an outdoor terrace and immaculately designed interiors.

LondonHouse Amenities

The large hotel has 452 guest rooms in king, suite and double double layouts with options to upgrade for “vista” rooms that boast the best views. All layouts offer in-room perks like free WiFi, 55-inch smart TVs, a mini fridge, coffee maker, sitting chair, roomy work station with ergonomic chair, luxe linens and signature LondonHouse robes. Bathrooms are outfitted with large walk-in showers and exclusive toiletries.

Of course, the hotel itself offers some pretty swanky extras. There’s a high-tech fitness center equipped with TechnoGym equipment and open 24 hours. There is also the LH Spa which offers massages, body treatments, eye enhancements and an array of nail services. LondonHouse also has high-tech extras like a digital key for Hilton Honors Members and Sonicast Streaming for binge watching in your room.

The biggest selling point, however, is the tri-level rooftop bar and restaurant. LH on 21 serves up modern American eats and craft cocktails in an indoor bar with sweeping views. One floor up, LH on 22 has an indoor/outdoor layout with the LH terrace, which boasts some of the best vistas of the Chicago River, Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan. Not a drinker? Enjoy LH afternoon tea service each afternoon. There is also a new restaurant opened in 2019: Ocean Prime serves up seafood, steaks and cocktails.

LondonHouse Location

LondonHouse is situated on the corner of North Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. The historic hotel is one of Chicago’s “Big Four” skyscrapers surrounding the Michigan Avenue Bridge. A few steps across the bridge, guests can walk to the riverwalk and Magnificent Mile. A few blocks east is Lake Michigan. Or, head south for Millennium Park, the Art Institute and Merchandise Mart.

Nearby accommodations include Club Quarters Hotel – Wacker at Michigan, The River Hotel, Comfort Suites Michigan Avenue, and Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront. LondonHouse is the most expensive, and also most luxurious, option of these surrounding competitors. Its architectural significance, four-star status and high-end amenities justify the price.

LondonHouse – The verdict

Of course, a stay at LondonHouse will depend on your budget. It is one of the more expensive options in the North Loop, but it has a lot of perks that justify the price. Its direct access to the Chicago riverfront is, of course, an unrivaled location, and there’s also the building’s architectural significance and high-end interior design. There are some good extras, as well, like a 24-hour gym and free WiFi. LondonHouse also has a spa with an array of luxe services. The biggest selling point, however, is the tri-level rooftop bar that offers some of the best views of the Windy City. If staying here is out of your budget, opt for a more affordable option nearby (like River Hotel) but be sure to stop by LondonHouse Rooftop Bar for a night cap to drink in that beautiful view.
