The North Bridge Neighborhood
The Shops at North Bridge gets its name from the four-level enclosed bridges that connect the mall over east Grand Ave and North rush Street. Located on Magnificent Mile’s prime Michigan Avenue real estate, the Shops at North Bridge refers to two multi-story retail complexes. This includes an enclosed mall and street-level retailers spanning six blocks.
The stretch includes five hotels (two Marriott owned and three Hilton), two office buildings, and three parking garages. The North Bridge shopping mall itself is located in the Art Deco McGraw-Hill building. The Chicago landmark was built in 1928 and restored to its former splendor in recent years. The mall occupies the lower floors, while the upper floors hold the Gwen hotel.
The Shops at North Bridge offers an array of fine dining and quick bite eateries. It also houses the 63,000-square-foot Eataly Chicago. There, you can find 23 eateries, one fine dining restaurant, and many retail departments including a bakery, a fresh pasta counter, and a meat and fish counter. Other full-service restaurants there include Joe’s Seafood, Shake Shack, and Sugar Factory.
Of course, The Magnificent Mile has many more luxury hotels and eateries on offer. Stay at Kimpton Palomar or Marriott Magnificent Mile within steps of the shop. If you want to save some money for shopping, stay at the Homewood Suites Downtown, the Freehand or ACME Hotel. Dine at favorites like 676 Restaurant & Bar, Michael Jordan’s Steak House, or Grand Lux Cafe.
